#SnowcreekFire 100% contained after 4 days

3:32PM: Just after 3:20PM this afternoon, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and Jeffcom 911 advised they were responding to a wildland fire in the area of HWY 285 and Morrison. JCSO Deputies are currently conducting door-to-door evacuations of homes in the area. Jeffcom has reported that they do have fire crews on scene and the 9-1-1 center is being inundated with calls. Residents are advised to stand by for any lookout alerts being sent.

3:39PM: West Metro Fire and aire support are on scene and a LookoutAlert has been sent to 60 residences. There is a full evaution for Mt Lindo & tip of Willow Springs. The evauations site is currentl The Fort. A weather report provided to staff on scene reported that there are currently wind gusts of 12-15 MPH and the fire is buring to the southwest.

3:54PM: West Metro Fire is requesting additional air support units to combat the fire. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has advised the public to expect road closures in the area, including:

  • HWY 8
  • Snowcreek Lane
  • Tiger Bend Lane
  • Mt. Lindo Park is closed to S. Turkey Creek
  • Belleview Ave & Willow Springs

4:13PM: Fire named and designated as the #SnowCreekFire and is estimated to be an acre in size.

4:32PM: The Red Cross has been requested to assist with logistics and the fire is estimated to be 2 acres.

4:36PM: The fire is in a difficult location and three crews of firefighters are hiking with hand tools to combat the fire. Douglas County has also provided a helicopter to help in the effort.  The evacuation center has been updated and is now Bear Creek High School (9800 W. Dartmouth Place).

4:54PM: Incident command cancelled the request to the Red Cross, advised they wanted assistance from the Salvation Army for supplies. Additional air support was in bound and staff continued to coordinate to combat the fire. At least one engine from Arvada Fire has also arrived on to assist.

5:19PM: Fire personnel have now been on scene for two hours. There are two helicopters and two plans assisting in combating the fire, while ground crews work to put in a fire line.

5:32PM: The evacuation center at Bear Creek High School is closing but will be reopened if there becomes a need.

6:09PM: The latest update was the fire was holding at 2 acres as crews continue to combat the fire. Crews were updated that between 6:15PM and 6:30PM, there is a potential for winds to increase to 15-20MPH.

7:20PM: Roads are beginning to re-open and crews continue to make progress on the fire. Crews will remain onsite overnight to monitor the fire and will continue to work on containing the fire tomorrow.

9:45AM - Wednesday: West Metro Fire provided a morning update that 35 firefighters will be working on containment and mop up today. Mt. Lindo remains closed.

4:00PM-Thursday: Incoming weather forced crews to leave the area earlier then expected this afternoon but West Metro Fire advised the fire is now at 95% containment and crews will be back tomorrow to finish up.

1:35PM-Friday: West Metro Fire advised the fire was 100% contained as of this afternoon, after firefighters spent this morning working on the fire's perimeter to make sure there was no heat remaining in the burn area. The cause of the fire has been attributed to lightning in the area on Tuesday.
