Inmate turns himself in after "walking-away" from the jail

Just after 1:40PM this afternoon, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) notified the public that an inmate had “walked-away” from the jail. The notification included the published picture of the suspect, along with information that the suspect was in custody for multiple traffic related failure to appear warrants and theft. JCSO Deputies are currently searching for the suspect.

The name and further details about how the inmate was able to walk-away were not immediately available. JCSO Has also sent out a Lookout Alert to residents around the area of the JCSO jail. The inmate is described as:

  • White male
  • 5’11 tall
  • 280 lbs
  • Last seen wearing blue jeans, white shirt, and no shoes

Update @ 2:14PM: The JCSO has identified the inmate as Richard Trevithick (DOB: 05/13/1985), and was last seen boarding light rail at 12:25PM.

Update @ 3:06PM on July 23rd: The JCSO advised a deputy was able to make contact with Trevithick and Trevithick subsequently turned himself in. He is now back in custody for his warrants and an additional charge for escape. Booking photo courtesy of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
